The contest is open to fan artists aged 18 (by contest close date of May 25th June 30, 2016) and above who follow the contest rules and submit art for review as detailed in the Contest Description below. [See why our contest deadlines have been extended here].

Winners must be able to accept prize payment via PayPal.

The Grand Prize winning illustration will be used as the cover for "Maiden Ash" so it is strongly advised that you download the story (free) and read it for inspiration in order to increase your chance of winning.

  • Winning art DOES NOT become the property of Kelly McClymer Books, or the EverTwixt immersive storyverse.  The prize-winning artists retain all copyright and may reuse, resell, or repurpose their art as they wish; however, the artists grant Kelly McClymer Books and EverTwixt immersive storyverse the right to use their image both online at,, and, in various social media, and -- in the case of the Grand Prize Winner -- as a cover for print books and ebooks, in perpetuity. In addition, artists grant Kelly McClymer Books the right to use the image to create limited time (three months) exclusive merchandise for promotion and sales purposes.
  • To be considered a valid submission to the contest, artist must:

  • Art will be judged for its suitability as the cover of "Maiden Ash."  As art is submitted, pieces accepted as suitable contest entries will be featured in a contest gallery and in various social media venues to share with EverTwixt readers.  Visit our FAQs page for more details.
  • Non-winning art may be displayed on our site, contest gallery, and on various social media venues (including but not necessarily limited to Facebook) to help promote the contest and expose submitted art to a wider audience. Non-winning art will not be used for any other purpose without the permission of the artist. The artist retains all copyright and may reuse, resell, or repurpose their art as they wish; however, after the contest is completed, the contest gallery and social media displays may remain online to help promote future contests.

Judging Criteria

The primary goal of the contest is to encourage fan artists to create art that will capture Maiden Ash in a way that encourages readers to read the story to find out more about her.  Each submitted art piece will be judged according to the following criteria, in priority order:

  • Evocation of Maiden Ash.
  • Creativity in delivering a unique and compelling vision.
  • An image composed in a way that allows for use as the cover of an e-book.
  • Demonstrated artistic and technical skills.
  • Ability to meet the technical requirements of submission.

Contest Description

Kelly McClymer Books' EverTwixt immersive storyverse "Art is Magic!" Contest invites fan artists to submit a digital image of their original work of art. 

  • Art may be in any medium; however, the digital image submitted must evoke a compelling vision of Maiden Ash, the titular character in "Maiden Ash."
  • Be composed in a way that allows for use as "cover art," where adding a story title and author byline is practical.
  • No more than 3 entries per artist.
  • For the purposes of this contest, "fan artist" is defined as someone creating art for works of fiction they enjoy reading.
  • Technical (for purposes of contest submission): Submit your art on Instagram with hashtag #evertwixtartismagic2016.
  • Technical (for winning art submission after preliminary judging is complete): 
    • File Type.: .jpg, .png, .gif, .pdf
    • Dimensions: Approximately 1000 pixels wide by 1294 pixels high. (Proportional to a 10 X 13 inch display). 
    • 72 - 300 DPI (For those who think in terms of DPI)
    • File Size: 1-10 Mb.
